SCHOOL FINISH AT 1.10 PM TOMORROW
As you will be aware Covid cases are on the rise around Auckland. As a school we are doing our best to avoid having to move back to at-home learning or roster students’ home (as many other schools in our community are already doing).
Unfortunately, we currently have a large number of staff who are isolating or unwell at the moment and while we have done our best to cover this internally the Senior Leadership Team have had to make the call to finish school early TOMORROW at break 2 as we have insufficient staffing for Session 3. Please know that we will only do this in genuine emergency situations where we are unable to staff the school.
This means:
Friday 20 May all students will have a brief Mentor time at 1 pm to hand in their devices and then be dismissed from school from 1.10 pm. If you do have a child under 14 who needs adult supervision for the afternoon then please email me on [email protected] and we will make arrangements for session 3.
As part of this announcement, I also thought it was timely to remind everyone about what we are doing as a school to keep all students and staff safe and able to engage in teaching and learning onsite.
We are currently at ORANGE setting of the Covid Protection Framework – for 海角社区 College this means:
- Masks are expected to be worn by both staff and students when indoors and within 2 m of other people.
- Masks must be worn on school buses or public transport on the way to and from school.
- You MUST NOT come to school if you are unwell, have COVID-19, or have a member of the household with COVID-19. Any students who arrive at school unwell will be sent home.
Unfortunately, we are still having a number of students arrive at school with symptoms which puts a big load on our small health team. As parents and caregivers could you please ensure that you keep your child home if they are unwell, and particularly if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.
Students who come to school unwell will have caregivers notified and be sent home. If they have covid symptoms they will be given a free RAT test. This test must be completed and be negative before the student is able to return to school. Proof of a negative test may be required if we have any concerns the student may have covid or has not been tested.
Your support with this would be very much appreciated.
We will also be continuing to monitor the situation around cases in the community and our ability to staff the school. In the event that we are unable to staff the school in the future then please be aware that we may need to roster our Year 9 or 10 students home for a day. At this stage, we will be keeping our senior students onsite to support them with NCEA. If we do make the call to roster students home families will be notified by text at 2 pm the day before. Students will be allowed to take their devices home that evening to support Home Learning the next day. Please be assured we will only do this if absolutely necessary.
We will also be holding our Leadership and Excellence Evening for Student Leaders and students that attained Excellence in the NCEA next Thursday at 5.30 pm. It is great to be able to celebrate this evening together and acknowledge the great work of our senior students.
